6 Weeks, 6 days!

Well today was the first doctors appointment! I was so nervous. I always get nervous for any doctors appointment. This time however, it made it slightly more real. Nathan is on spring break this week so imagine how much pleasure I got out of waking him up at 8 am to go to the doctor with me.

We got to the doctor and after filling out the first of many papers I'll be enduring during this pregnancy, they called me back. I got weighed and she gave me my "goodie" bag of "loot". This was basically a few publications, a calendar, a disk of all their FAQ's (very good idea) and preregistration forms for the hospital in Birmingham. I inform Nathan after I go back to the waiting area that I will be delivering in St. Vincent's hospital in Birmingham and he said, "OH GREAT! Do you know how long that car trip will be when you're in labor???" We live about an hour and a half from Birmingham already :) oh the joys of labor.

So we sit for what seems like forever and Nathan tries to find every "man-o-zine" he can possibly get a hold of. They finally call me back and Nathan came too. We get ushered into the room and I have my blood pressure taken (perfect) and then the lady informs me that the doc will be in in just a minute...and like every PAP they say, "Go ahead and get undressed and use the cloths (drop cloths) to cover your top and bottom." Well dear Nathan has obviously never sat threw a PAP before so he immediately takes the curtain and starts to pull it in front of himself and uses my phone to play "bubble pop". I'm like, "Hello...you have seen me before..." "This is different," he says. So I am talkin to Nathan behind the curtain when the Doctor comes in and greets me and then looks below the curtain at Nathan's amazingly bright green shoes (and he doesn't just wear them because it's St. Patty's) and I say, "Oh don't mind the curtain...my husband is behind it." She just laughed and went on with it.

So after she's finished with my exam she says I can get dressed and Dr. Ingram will be in. I use this time to ask Nathan to quit playin "bubble pop" and "act like you're interested in being here." He laughed and does the "I'm interested..." Eh. So she comes in and told me I'm for sure due November 4! I knew that already (according to the computers anyway.) So she did the run threw of questions and told me next visit I would be able to hear the heartbeat and then around 18-20 weeks we'd have an ultra-sound in Birmingham. YAY! She called the baby my "jelly bean" and I've decided that's a sweet name. So I'll be referring to the baby as my little Jelly Bean. I found a creeper at GAP over the weekend that I should have gotten. It says "Mommy's little Jelly Bean". I might just have to go back.

So after we were done with Dr. Ingram I then get to go and get my blood drawn. 3 WHOLE VIALS!!!! I said, "You just don't know...I'm a BLEEDER!!!!" I think the lady thought I was kidding. NO MA'AM I'M NOT! Usually people have a minor dot of blood on the cotton ball after blood is drawn...not me. I've got like dime size blood on the ball. And of course, I took a picture. I'll spare y'all the pic. So I scheduled my next appointment for April 13 and we'll get to hear the heartbeat. Yay for excitement!

Now if only the "morning" sickness will end. I have a secret for y'all...it's not just in the morning!

Week 6 and I'm feelin sick....

Well according to the Internet calculators...I'm 6 weeks preggers today! It still feels weird to think that I have this thing growing and multiplying in my body. So much is going on and I can't even feel it yet. Nathan and I were out today at Lowe's and he yawned and said he was tired. Mind you this is only like 1:30 in the afternoon. My hormones kicked in. I said "YOU??? How are YOU tired??? I'm the one growin a heart this week!" He just laughed. I guess the baby makes him tired too.

I hadn't really felt all that nauseous until today. I usually just feel really crampy and like my stomach just doesn't feel well, but today....oh goodness. When we stopped in at Walmart, we were in the check out and I said I wanted a Fanta sooooooo bad. (Luckily Fanta has NO caffeine, this makes me happy.) So Nathan wondered up and down the check outs and no Fanta...only Sunkist...and that has caffeine. Grr! So I had to settle for a Sprite. At that point I just wanted anything but water. So I settled for the Sprite and started chuggin in the car. It also helped my stomach a little. We then went to Dollar Tree so I could get a note book to write questions in for my doctor...pregnancy brain has also kicked in. Anyway we're walkin by and what does Nathan say??? "Oh look, they have Fanta." THEY WOULD! Oh well. So by the time we get home I'm so tired and worn out that all I want to do is sleep. I get myself curled up on the couch and cover with a blanket and pray I'm not going to throw up. You know it's bad when you repeat to yourself...I will NOT throw up...I will NOT throw up. I'm not sure how long I slept but I'm sure it was in the area of 2 hours. Nathan said he might have dozed about 30 mins. I tell you this baby is sure makin me tired! And yes, I'm aware it is now not ever going to end.

So after church tonight while cooking dinner Nathan and I were throwin names out and either liking them or vetoing them. I know vetoing doesn't look right, but you get my gist. So anyway we've actually come up with a list of about 5 maybe 8 names for the baby. Too bad we've got to wait til like June to know what it is! But I like this. I like that Nathan will get involved. This is definitely goin to be a major change for both of us and I can't wait to experience it with him. I think it will all become more real for him when we go to the doctor next week. I really hope we'll have an ultrasound so we can at least see something. I would love it even more if we could hear a heart beat. Some kind of physical evidence will be nice rather than just feeling like my uterus is constantly twisted and I'll throw up at any moment!

And now I think I'll go to bed...baby and I need sleep!

Survey Says.......

Well I suppose if you've found this page then you know....WE'RE EXPECTING! About a week ago it was just a normal Saturday morning. I woke up, chilled on the couch and waited for Nathan to finally get out of bed. That morning I had felt really pretty sick but I didn't think anything about it. It just kept eggin on and driving me a little bonkers. Well then I went and checked the old calendar. Hmmm....so I'm like a few days late, but that's no big deal. Then I got to thinkin about how just the week leading up to this, multiple times during the week I would sit on the couch in the afternoon and just pass out dead tired to the world. Also come 9:45...I'm ready to go to bed...again NOT like me. So Saturday mid morning I finally go to take a shower and I thought, one test won't hurt...it's not like it's goin to change anything. During this time Nathan was in the computer room and playin his games or on Facebook. Well I took the test, washed my hands and started to wonder how long the results really would take to come up. Not but the second I dried my hands on the towel and glanced down I saw something. PREGNANT. I blinked a few times, picked up the test, shook it vigorously and said "OK so where's the NOT?" I shook it again....still the same. I suppose I figured it would be like a magic 8 ball and I would get the other answers if I kept shaking it. No dice. So then I started shaking. And I thought...um.....yeah. How am I goin to tell Nathan?

I can't shower at this point because at this point I'm surprised I was able to let myself out of the bathroom door. I take the test, steady myself into the kitchen, living room and then slowly approach the computer room. I just leaned against the door frame and said..."Hey so uh..." And Nathan proceeded to look at me and say, "What?" I slowly walked over to him and slowly held the test from behind my back and showed him. He looked down and just stared. I immediately went into the whole, "Well maybe it's a false positive, maybe if I take another one later it will change...." and so on. He just had this smirk look on his face and was convinced something was wrong with the test. So I waited a few hours an took another one. (Thank goodness for 2 packs!) And again, I came out and said, "Well...no change, sorry dude." Again Nathan believes this whole thing to be wrong. Perhaps there was a wrong batch or whatever. I too started to question it because of the fact it was 2 sticks and only 1 actual test holder.

Nathan's reaction when I said the second test was still positive...thrilled still.

I figured I would wait and go get one of those plus or minus tests the next day. I however start feeling very crampy and all kinds of tired. Oh and did I mention my bathroom visits have all but tripled???!!! Yeah so I'm believing that this test is probably correct. But to clear Nathan's conscience, I venture to good old Dollar General and I think surely they'll have a test. What good southern momma can't find out if she's preggers or not from Dollar General. Nope. Can't get them there. So now I drive down to CVS which is about 12-15 mins down the road. I get one there and all is well. I go home and take one right away. That plus sign showed up instantly. I then start laughing. So ok, I'm pregnant. Nathan still doesn't believe it. So lucky me I had bought another awesome 2 pack. Later that night before getting ready to go to bed I took the second one. I then opened the bathroom door and told him to watch it. Boom. Plus sign. He then starts laughing and said, "Well let's wait to see the blood test from the doctor." HELLO!!!! 4 POSITIVE TESTS ARE USUALLY A GOOD SIGN YOU'RE HAVIN A BABY! So I say ok dear.

I got up on Monday and called the doctor. She politely asked what I needed and I said, "Um, I guess my first OB appointment." She asked if I had taken any home test. I said, "Yes ma'am...4 of them." I didn't tell her it was because my husband thinks modern technology doesn't work. She then loudly says, "Well I'd surely say you're pregnant!" I wished I would have given Nathan the phone so he could hear. But I didn't. She did tell me however that I could come in and get my prenatal vitamins and scheduled my first appointment. So I am going on March 17 (Happy St. Patty's to us) and hopefully we'll find out more then.

So I'm going to post little random tidbits on here during the pregnancy and keep everyone up to date on how things are progressing. For now it's just nausea at 5:30 am and only when I lay on my side to sleep and goin to the potty like I'm in a contest to see how much I can go an hour!

I hope you all enjoy and I do hope you'll comment and share back with us!
